Talón Fest! w/ Piñata Protest, Tropa Magica, Volcán
Sat June 15 @ 6:00 pm
Talón Fest! A Celebration of Talón culture! “Talón” is a word used by mariachis to describe going out to restaurants or bars to find patrons looking to enjoy some intimate music as they enjoy their food and drinks among their friends, family, or lover. No other music form has the intense intimate power that talón has— one cannot help but be moved. Talón encompasses music genres from all over Latino America, from romantic trios, son jarocho, to Caribbean groups, and norteño. Those who live or have visited San Antonio may be familiar with mariachi’s playing at the Mexican restaurants at the Riverwalk, the norteño groups at the various mariscos restaurants around town, or the trios at Mi Tierra Restaurant. The essence of Talón Fest is to recreate that unique experience, to pay homage to the musicians who dedicate themselves to this art form, feature new styles of talón, and to introduce the world of talón to future generations and ensure it’s existence. The festival will also feature bands on a standard the indoor stage. These bands all share in mixing of traditional sounds with new ones. Several of these bands will also participating in talón in the patio. The festival will end with a palomazo, musicians from the various groups performing at the festival joining together to play a song. This year’s song will be La Chona.
