Museum celebrates its first year at new location

Wendy Sweet and her daughter Kailyn Sweet, 5, don’t usually get to visit the museum because of Sweet’s work schedule but this past Saturday they got lucky.

“I teach so we usually come in the summer or school holidays,” Sweet, 37, said.

The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Golden Crescent celebrated its first year at its new location, 1205 Sam Houston Drive, Victoria, TX 77901, on Saturday, March 10, 2018.

The museum served as a venue to several vendors from various parts of the community, ranging from Dow Chemical to the American Red Cross, during its celebration.

Birthday cake was shared and served by volunteers. The museum was founded in 2002 and was previously housed in downtown Victoria where the University of Houston-Victoria Center for the Arts is now located.

“It gives her a place to be a kid and not have to be so structured,” Sweet said. “She just goes and imagines and plays and makes friends.”
